Transfer Case Service Interval?

Does anybody know the service interval on the transfer case on these 4x4 trucks? I currrently have 32,000 & am wondering when I should have it serviced. What did your fluid look like when you serviced it? Does it take just 2 quarts of ATF?.............

At 60K my local dealer sent me a card in the mail saying the 60K service needed to be performed. It had the services listed.

Oil Change
Filter Change
Fuel Filter Change
Transmission Flush
Transfer Case Service
4 Wheel Drive Service (Front and Rear Diffs)

Hope that helps.

Look at the service schedule and don't take the word of anyone who has a profit motive. I've never serviced any I have ever had but I sold my last one at 179,000+ miles and it worked perfectly.

Holy, the US intervals are quite a bit longer then the Canadian ones. Must have to do with climate, from Ford.com

Transfer case interval:
Normal = 150k
Off-road = 60k

I changed mine at 60K. It didn't look bad but could have looked better. Replaced it with recomended motorcraft. No difference noticed in the shifting but there wasn't anything wrong to begin with.

Was crazy easy to do I might add.
An oil change takes longer than it did.

I did mine at around 65k...but that's because I had to swap in a whole new transfer case. Felt no difference besides the fact that my 4wd started to work again

Not that I would recommend it and I won't going this long on the F150. My 89 Ranger was sold with over 200k miles on the original transfer case and fluid and front diff. It was abused a lot in 4wd and both the transfer case and front diff. still worked great.

The rear diff. grease was changed 3 times( each time that I replaced the rear end). This should tell you how hard I was on the truck.

I might change the transfer case this summer it will have 50k miles on it by then. If not might change it next year I'm not in a big rush.

Ive never changed the transfer case fluid before, does it have drain plug or a cover plate that you remove. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

The truck might have 32K on the clock but unless you've driven in 4HI for all those miles the T-case likely only has 10-15K on it. You don't have to worry about servicing it for a long time.

IIRC, there are two plugs just like on a diff. Take them out with a 3/8" extension and obviously the lower one is a drain. They are both on the back.

I was under the impression that the insides were always spinning regardless of whether the 4WD was engaged or not?..........
