Careful guys! See my post in the other thread. This TSB does NOT deal with the whistle that many of us have. If your favorite noise occurs only below 40 degrees (F) and only right around 1,800 RPM's - regardless of how warm the engine is - this TSB noted here won't do you any good.

mine has a high pitched noise when the engine is cold/hot, highway/street, winter/summer. does it just about anytime it wants, at various rpms.
It's not a belt squeal either. sounds more like a dry bearing. had the truck for a year now, and it's stayed the same. I figured what ever it is would have broken by now so I could tell what to fix. remains a mystery to me.

I'm having it performed tomorrow. Mine has the exact symptoms as the TSB describes - only 3,600 miles

They order the part for me today hope this fixes the problem. The funny thing is i went to the dealer yesterday and asked the service manager if ford had a tsb out for this yet and he said no he hadnt seen anything on this and kind of blew me off.So last night i got home and found this tsb on another site and printed it.Back to the dealer this morning didnt say anything just handed the tsb to the manager. It took him a solid minute to get his foot out of his mouth and finilly said he would order the part. They really dont want to do this theres no money in it for them did you see what fords paying them to do the tsb .3hrs whats that 25 dollars. thats my opinion anyway.

I had the "hoot/whistle" just at cold idle below ~35deg.
The colder the temperature was, the louder the "hoot".

It would be loudest at cold idle where the engine is idled up a little bit when cold (never looked at the actual RPM).

The sound would go away once it was warmed up.

I went to my dealer armed with the TSB number, but didn't offer it right away - I figured I would see if they would take the time to try and help me first.
The service manager was very helpful, and did some searching with my VIN - found the TSB (without me offering it), ordered the part, and made an appointment for me.

Worked like a charm - no more "Hoot"!

Do you think this would apply to my 05? I doubt it does since the TSB only mentions 07-08. My truck sounds a grown man letting out a loud Screech after getting kicked in the nuts. Usually happens on startup when its below 20*F and gets longer and louder as the temperature gets colder.

My old ranger made almost the same noise too and it was the power steering pump on it. I haven't decided if it is the power steering pump on the F150 yet or not.

34* this morning - no "whistling/hoot" noise. So far so good.

Just pop off the belt one night and see if it makes the noise first thing the next morning. You dont have to run it too long but enough to check for the hoot. Then reinstall the belt and try it.
