New to the site

hey guys
I'm looking for a 04 plus f150 fx4 and i found an 04 HERE. I dont know much about the newer F150s. I have a 94 ranger and my parents want me to get a more reliable truck. so what is there to know about the trucks what goes wrong. what are common problems. all that kind of stuff.

the only thing that truck doesnt have that i would like is the center shifter. is that something you could swap too or something like that?

Thanks alot guys

The most common problems on the 04's and 05's are the plugs and injectors. The plugs are a bitch to get out. Try and negotiate a free plug change if you buy that one.

The stock plugs break easily. There was a trick to get around it. Turning them back and forth till they loosened up a little bit. Never tried it, so its hard for me to justify how it works. Uhm, 2006 to 2007 F150's with the 5.4L flex fuel engine had a recall for a reflash of the computer. It was to help the computer adjust itself to E85 when it was being used. If its not reflashed, it could cause minor problems in the future.

Do a search on "spark plug TSB" and you will find lots of info to read.

Does not sound like a great deal to me, but sounds reasonable. A lot depends on it's history. Try to learn about it's maintenance schedule. Plus, there is probably a little negotiating room there.

Another thought, if you are not familiar with Ford 4x4s, you might try to find someone that is and have them check it out. Those can be abused and have problems.
