Good advice and point taken. I'm just beginning to look as a change is not imminent. Of course here in Louisiana we don't get much snow

Unlike some of what I've read here and in other forums I've been very happy with my Pirelli Scorpions. As noted earlier, I'd just like to fill up some of that ugly wheel well.

I may start with Freddytran's idea of just removing the 4x4 blocks to drop the rear a couple inches. Then it's on to bigger tires.

make sure to grab some 4x2 u-bolts then...also make sure you have the right ones for a 9.75 (5.4 motor) or 8.8 (4.6 motor) axle

I put 22's on my 4X4 and removed the rear blocks to level it out, looks much better. I need the 4X4 for New England winters. I thought about adding an autospring level in the front and leave the rear end alone, however, I didn't want to mess with the front end and the ball joints. I know people will say that there isn't an issue with their ball joints due to the AS but its just a personal preference thing for me. And best of all, it didn't cost me a dime, just 30 minutes of my time. Actually I lied, Tylus is right, I had to buy new u-bolts (2wd) which cost me about $20.

Thanks for the tip on the U bolts. I would not have thought of that!

As for 22s, well I really like my Foose 20s. Now if somebody has a set of 22s and wants to trade down to 20s, I'd be willing to talk.

hey RMS8, did you ever find out if yours was a 2" or a 2.5"? that pic you posted sure looks exactly like my 2.5"...especially since we've both got a Autosprings leveling kit...that or I've got a 2" installed.

btw, AutoSprings for the win. They make an excellent product

See this thread I started a little while back....

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...level-kit.html

I have the 2".

i have an fx4, i would of bouth a fx2 if i did not have to drive to work no matter what. and we can get some pretty good storms here in new england. i am going with the roush kit, slightly lowered, not much, better handling and form everyone who has this kit the truck feels tighter and just better in general. i dont offroad so i dont have a need for a high truck. plus i think my balljoints may appreicate the slightly less angle. maybe not but that could be another added perk.

Still slightly confused --- if I remove the 2" 4WD blocks I need to change the Ubolt. Y2k discount parts shows a 2WD Ubolt standard and a "heavy payload." Same for the F150 4WD - standard and "heavy payload". Huh??

And to lead me out of the fog, would I be better to use the 2" lowering shackles I see guys selling here. Remember I just want to level out the rear end - and again apologies - these questions may seem rudimentary, but I'm no mechanic.

not a problem

4x2 has a shorter length u-bolt than the 4x4 since they don't have to compensate for the 2" block

the Heavy Duty F-150 has stronger u-bolts than the normal F-150 (and 10.25 axle, 7 lug nuts...etc)

5.4 engine right?
order the 9.75 axle 4x2 u-bolts...the standard ones I guess they call it.

without the rear block, your truck will have the exact setup as a OEM 4x2 out back...so just use their bolts

as for the lowering shackles...it's really the same amount of effort to do it either way. I personally would remove the block first. just depends on how you want to achieve your result

I've been thinking about doing this as well. Will removing the rear block mess up the driveline angle and cause vibration?

I did the same thing, but not at the festivals. My dad and I would get up early and meet with the crews and volunteer with whoever was short handed. Then started working for a old friend of my dads that had her own balloon. Best times working I have ever had. I miss it so much too, not much ballooning in Az anymore.
