Third Brake Light

I know this is beating a dead horse but anyway. I bought a new 08 F150 two months ago. So far i am enjoying my truck it took some time to get use to it due to i traded in a 06 F250 for it. I have not had any real complaints other than my wiper cowl wanting to wave at all the other cars on the road. I have been doing some reading and reasearching and seen where some of you guys are having water problems with the third light. So tonight when i got to work i took a minute to look at mine. I am so happy, it has water in it since it has been raining just about everyday the past week here. Its not in the area where the lights are but where the screws hold it in place. It appears that when the factory installed it they overtightned the screws and cracked the lens around the screw holes. Is this where most of you guys are getting water from? So i guess when i go back to the dealer wednesday, so they can replace my wiper cowl i'll address this with them to. I know some of you would like some pics, when the much needed rain here stops and i can wash her up ill post some, but loving the site, and many of you i envy for there are some beautiful trucks on here.

I believe most of the third break light problems were with the gasket not being applied properly at the factory, I removed my light and the gasket was pinched, straightened it out and used some rtv, never a problem again.
My front cowl was replaced, still kept coming loose in the center, put a small stainless screw in the middle where they come together solves this problem, these fixes were found on this web site, thanks for that.

I just had the dealership replace the 3rd brake light on a 08 due to water inside the cover.

Make sure you have a copy of the latest TSB (08-25-05) in hand.

PM me with your email address if you would like a copy.

I am afraid to check mine but I noticed condensation under the lens AND one nite will in the back seat, when my wife hit the brakes, I could see light thru my headliner in the 3rd light area, I guess their is a open hole there to let light thru?? (water too???) :O

My dealer already replace my cowls twice and performed both cowl TSBs - still won't stay in place and the last time, they broke my windshield.

Good luck!!

Pay close attention to the lower outer corners of the windshield - just above the push pins in the cowls. My crack showed up 2 days after the cowl install. Was very difficult to get the dealer to accept responsibility but after some "very enthusiatic negotiating" they replaced my windshield.
