Yes another sparkplug thread

Search feature didn't really help me out with this one.

The 4.6's aren't having the dreaded spark plug breaking problem are they? I need to change my plugs and wires but i don't want to end up screwing myself over by breaking them off.

Would it be in my better interest to have a shop do it for me ? I've got a buddy who i may be able to talk into doing it for me at his shop if so.

It's only the 5.4 from 2004 till 2008 that have the breakage problem. Looks as if you have to do it yourself.

I don't have a problem doing it myself, i just want to know if I'm getting in over my head. If it's only the 5.4's then i should be fine.

What else should i clean up or replace while i'm at it? truck has 69k on it and i really haven't done the reg maintenance like i should be. I cleaned the MAF about 15k ago and that's about it....i suck at maintaining my truck

The transmission should have the fluid changed plus the fuel filter needs to be changed about every 20,000. Of coruse the air filter, if you haven't changed it.

Do all the 2008's have the plug problem? I thought some of the later 2008 models have a different plug due to the past problems.

It was fixed in the latter part of 07, I think it was anything built after Oct 07 that has a new design.
