Lowering truck and backing

I recently backed into a car who drove close to my bumper while waiting in a fast food lane. I looked through the mirrors but still had no idea a car was behind me. The car was very low to the ground and now too long. It was completely out of my view. Are there any mods to help prevent something like this. I am a careful driver and didn't expect this to ever happen. Does anyone think that lowering the truck an inch or so could have helped me see the guy beyond the "tall" tailgate? Does the rearview cam really help?

yes dropping it 2" in the rear can help out some. At night i like to look through the small crack in the sides (seams) of the tailgate for light.

seems like a dumb reason to lower a truck..no offense....rear veiw cameras and parking aid sensor systems are both available aftermarket. or you could lift your truck so next time you have a blonde moment you can just back onto their hood.

Bummer man, but I know what you mean as I have came close to doing just the same thing. I have trained myself to be very careful while backing up where cars could be hidden behind me. Even while stopped at a red light I have watched cars drive right up my tail and fit just perfectly were I can not see them at all. I have added a hard tonneau cover so it makes it even harder to see what is directly behind me.

I am sure the camera option would have been a good addition. My wife has it on her car and man let me tell you you can see everything, but you have to look at it for it to work. Case in point I had just finished mowing the lawn and cleaning off my mower. I left the mover directly behind her car and got side tracked. Jumping into her car to move it into the garage I had to back up first to get straight and BOOM you guessed it right into the mover. My sons says Whoooo. I jumped out and surveyed the damage whew lucky nothing a little rubbing compound won't fix. Whew.....anyone have a fix for blackmailing son!!!!

It was definitely a "blonde" moment. But still, the guy was out of my view and I had just driven up. The guy must have raced behind me 2 seconds after I was there. There was No damage and I am glad the guy Honked his horn when he saw me switch into reverse. Still, he found a "scratch". Not much I could say. Anyway, I wouldn't ever want to lower the truck, I just wondered if it would help prevent those who try to drive practically under your bumper. If he wouldn't have honked, I wonder how far I would have gone over his hood.
