Spark Plug Removal NIGHTMARE!

Well I got 6 out okay, then the last back 2 on the passager side broke.

All that came out was the hex jam nut. YES, I follow TSB but they still broke.

So I pulled the white part out and the center rod but the rest is broke in the heat sheild.

Do I need to have it towed to ford at this point to remove the head?

This really sucks! Anyone have any ideas?

See if this helps. It's a sticky in the 2004-2008 forum.

Yes, I have tried it. The center screw doesn't seem to hold in the porcelain. I used the red loc tight but it slips out.

Anymore ideas.... Do they make tool just to remove the porcelain?

Yes, but it is expensive. I'll do a search on it.

I haven't had this happen yet but if it were me, I'd try to find a small long rod or screw that matched the size of the electrode hole to a T. There may be too much play b/n the ceramic and the rod not allowing sufficient contact to seize together, if it's pulling out after setting up. Also, as mentioned, make sure the carb cleaner has evaporated completely b/c somebody just posted saying if it's still wet the loctite won't setup. Just a thought.
I wish somebody could come up with something like a lag bolt where it can be put thru the hole and once out the other end will open up so the porcelin can be extracted. I can picture it but I'm sure somebody's tried something like it without success apparently.

Red loctite isn't enough. You need the green stuff.

i was going to do this to my truck but ford told me not to because carbon builds up on the inside which makes it break off when trying to pull it off. You need to get the engine de carbonized before trying this.. I have a feeling that your going to have to take this to the dealership to get it fixed which is gonna be expensive. I hope you get it out though man!

Red Locktite definitely isn't enough. I used #444. It's an instant PCB adhesive. Also make sure the area is DRY. If there's a lot of carb cleaner or Kroil down there, the glue will not cure. With mine, I let the truck sit for a day. Then I put the pins in dry to make sure everything evaporated. Be sure to use enough glue and give them ample time to cure.

It may be worth trying on one of your old plugs. Break the plug in half and do a dry run.

Thumbs down

Just got off the phone with the dealer.....
They tell me they have seen hundreds of trucks with this issue.
Probably 5-6 a week he says.

He said they have 3 guys that are extremly good at getting them out.
So we'll see....

I am going to have it towed in tomorrow.

Everything I tried hasn't worked.
I am just sick over this whole thing and would rather pay than mess something up more.

FORD failed big time on this design!
