Wierd gas gauge

Hey quick question,

Sometimes when I feel my truck up I notice the gas gauge doesn't automatically show full. After I drive around a while it goes up and shows full. Has anyone else noticed this? and is it something I should take the truck to the dealer for?

Thanks,
Jon

do you shut off the engine while filling up??? I think it might automatically reset when you start the truck.
but I don't know for sure, as I always shut off my truck while filling up.

Do you fill it up from pretty close to empty? Or do you just shove a few gallons in it at a time?

Mine just did that the other day. I did a search on here and people said it happens when you leave your key in the ignition while filling up. As long as it goes to full, I am happy.

Yeah,

I shut the truck off and take my keys with me. I usually fill up at half a tank.

Ford said it was normal??? Geez....I think if your cab fell off the frame going down the road Ford would say it was normal

Mine does it every once in awhile too. Actually just did it the last time I filled up. Only went up to 3/4, but by the time I got home it had went to full.
I usually keep my keys in the ignition also, but I rarely have this happen to me.

Ford says this happens from bad gas. I had the issue a few years ago in Alaska, and the technical response was too much sulfur on the tank sensor contacts or something like that. I went to another brand at about a 1/4 down, and it popped right up. I also haven't seen it since I moved, so who really knows but it seems to be somewhat of an issue of quality gas.

True.

I posted the same thing in another thread somewhere in here a few months back. Throw some techron in the tank if you can find it or just drive a tank with Chevron. My local dealership used to buy Techron bulk and just give it away everytime someone came in with that problem.

Yea, i have noticed that in my truck too. Also, has anyone noticed that their gauge will read full until like 50 miles and then finally it will like really quickly move to the 3/4 full? Don't know if this is just how it does it or if it has anything to do with me only being able to last about that long with a light foot.

My truck usually runs a lot better after I feel it up, especially if it's been a while. I'm just messing with you. It makes work go by faster.

Wow, all that education really pays off when it comes to spelling. I guess I better stop "feeling" it up and start "filling" it up.
