NEED HELP! 2004 Super Cab with 84k miles

Hey guys, so here is the deal. I am looking at a used 2004 Super Cab that appears to be in great shape. 2wd, lift, Helo Maxx rims, Nitto TG's, grille, leather, etc.

Bad news - 85k miles
Good news - $9,995 asking price, probably negotiable.

My question is, how bad are those miles? Are F150s strictly a 100k mile truck and they they are done? Is this too many miles? My first instinct is that it is too much and I shouldn't buty anything with over 50k miles. What do you guys think? I am going tomorrow to take it for a test drive!

Here are some pics of it!

If it has been maintained properly, that mileage is no problem. These engines should be good for 200,000 plus miles. Mine has 76,000 and just getting broken in. See if you can get a maintenance history.

find out if the plugs have been changed. Ifyou are not aware of the spark plug breaking issue for the 2004-2007, then use the search feature and do some reading.

Thanks BlueJay, I am not sure on the history yet. I will run a CarFax report before I make a final decision. Not aware of the spark plug issue, I will research it. But spark plugs are easy enough to replace.

Wrong! That is why I brought it up. These have a very poorly designed plug which will breack off in the chamber if the TSB is not followed explicitly. A few guys have had to pay to have heads removed to get the broken pieces out. My dealer changed mine at 65,500 miles with none breaking. It is my opinion tht if you use a gas with a good detergent, such as Techron, you have a better chance of them not breaking. Just do some reading. I would not let it keep me from buying a nice truck, just would want to know what was involved. This problem was a surprise to truck owners.

I went ahead and searched for the TSB, see post #8.
NewTSB on spark plug removal.

Here is the link to one of the better threads. Especially look at post number 8

Interesting, I will have to look into that. That sounds like a bitch to deal with. Thanks for the heads up.
So aside from this engineering disaster, any other issues to be concerned about?

Well, the 04 was the first of the new design, so there were some that had different problems. There were some that had a cam phaser knock and some had fuel injector problems. If the truck seems solid and sounds good, that seems like a resonable price. It looks good in the picture.
