Got my new Tailgate

UPS delivered my new/replacement Tailgate that i bought off ebay today.
Color matched perfectly, put it on the truck and installed a S/S hose clamp around the pivot arm on the passenger end of where it installs. Will be a pain in the **** for anyone to take that off.
One thing i noticed is i got ALOT better gas mileage with it off.
Usually i have to fill up every 2 weeks, I drove the same mileage for the 2 weeks i had to wait for the tailgate and I ended up with an extra 1/4 tank of gas at the end of both weeks.

New trucks are designed to get better mpg with the tailgate up...

I don't understand it either, i used to laugh at trucks i saw on the road with the tailgate down because i have read so many articles that it does absolutly nothing. (other than compromise the integrity of the truck).
But, for 2 weeks in a row i can honestly say i had 1/4 more in my tank while driving exactly the same.

myth busters did something on it a few years ago... Said with it up it made a vortex type thing in the bed. Looks like I have a science experiment for my son @ school

maybe it was because your truck was a little lighter?

Who did you go through on Ebay? A shop or a private seller? I need a tailgate.

Thanks!

Just a quick question,....
What happened to the tailgate that came with the truck?
Stolen? Damaged?

Wholesalepartsunlimited, they had a total of 5 (now 4), they paint to match (after you give them your paint code located on the drivers door sticker)
Total was 695.00, but e-bay has a special running and credited my acct.$ 70.00, so total including shipping was 625.00.
Only down side is you don't get a key with the tailgate. Looks brand new, including the Ford logo, pull handle, and plastic piece that protects the top.

It doesn't include the key or the key and lock cylinder?

I would have never imagined someone stealing a tailgate.

Does not include the key, has the handle and lock cylinder, just your key will not work it. I am going to the Ford dealer to see if i can buy just the locking mechanism. The tailgate comes with everything, inlcuding the hangar cables.
