Removing 2 parts to be painted. How to?

I'm wanting to get 2 things painted on my truck.

The skull caps on the mirrors.

And the center surround piece on the dash.

Question is, how do you remove these? Is it possible to get the skull caps off without having to tear the truck apart? I thought they could just be popped off. FX4LIFE says otherwise. And what about the dash piece? Can that be taken off without removing the entire dash?

Thanks in advance.

The Center dash piece pops right out and you just unplug everything from the back of it, not hard to do......not sure about the skull caps as my truck doesnt have them

the center thing is easier to pop off if you pop open the cupholder insert, and reach up and pull straight towards you, start at the bottom clips, i think there are 10 clips total on them.

Im not sure about the skull caps, ill look them up, or ask Fabian, after he did this thread im sure he knows

first you have to get the glass out of the mirror, bend the mirror glass out gently, be careful its not too strong and look behind the galss, there is a plastic gear looking thing, wiggle a tip of a small screwdriver and pop it off the motor, then the skull cap is hold on with some torx screw, you will see what i mean when you pop it off. and when you take off the radio surround, pop the clips outta the area and put them back on the bezel when remounting it, its a tiger to put back in if you leave the clips in the holes.

Thanks for the info guys.

Patman, you mean take the cupholders OUT? Or just open them?

ATOM, do you know where that little gear is? Like which side or something? Wondering if it would be easier if i turned the mirror a certain way from inside that would make it any easier to reach that motor.

i assume you got power mirrors, or maybe not. push the bottom of the glass in, you'll see on the back of the mirror glass a plastic piece, its snaps on the motor for adjusting the mirror, just take a screwdriver and wiggle in between and twist them apart lightly. just take a look behind your mirror glass and you will see what i mean.

Ok, tired taking the mirrors off with no luck. . Maybe my mirrors are different? Is there a way you could take a picture of the piece that needs to be snapped off? I'm going to try and take a pic tomorrow.

I do just want to paint the top half. I can see the 2 screws that hold the top piece on, just dont see where these "snaps" are to get the mirror off so i can reach the screws.

Can you explain better where the snaps are? How many? Like i said, i'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

ok i suck at explaining stuff very well, push the bottom of your mirror in. look behind it, wiggle it around, you'll see there is a black circle glued to the back of the glass, you wanna pop that off the motor. all you need is a thin blade flat headed screwdriver, just it between there and twist gently, it should pop right off.

Sorry about the bad quality of the pic.

At first i thought you were referring to the clip at #1. But you're saying its the big "ball joint" near #2?

Btw, about prepping these pieces. What kind of sand paper do you use?
