Release the pressure by removing the gas cap.

I've never realeased anything, never had any pressure. Just a few drips that I catch with a rag

yeah i read mostly all the threads involving fuel filters and no one mentioned it so im guessing ill do the same and just open the gas cap. also so i just slip plastic or scissor tool in the pipe when removing the filter and then remove the tool before putting the new filter or leave it and then remove tool? hope i explained that right. just want to get it right the first time. thanks for the quick replies!!

It's like anything else. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

Just don't smoke while doing it. Long story... buddy lost his eyebrows for a few weeks.

You remove the tool before you install the new filter. The tool expands the clip in the line. When you shove the line on the new filter, it closes the clip.

I did mine yesterday, i actually disconnected the thing twice because the first time i couldn't get the silver scissor looking tool to work on the opposite side (dont need a tool for the blue clip side, thats cake). I then drove to the auto parts store and exchanged it for the plastic ring tool. Anyways, the first time i let the truck sit for a little while and opened the gas cap and only had a little gas drain out. The second time i tackled the thing immediatley after i got back home, didn't bother opening the gas cap, and had about the same amount of gas drip out. So i really dont think it matters much if you let it sit, take the gas cap off, or anything like that. But that's just my experience with it, good luck.

I paid to have mine done at 15k. Sounds like I should do it myself. What does the tool and filter cost at Auto Zone or Pep Boys?
