Autolamp problem

All of a sudden when I have the headlamp switch set to auto only the parking lights come on. The fogs will also light up if I have them on, but no headlamps. If I manually move the switch all the way to the right all the lights will come on. I've done a search here and looked in the owner's manual and haven't found anything. Anyone have any ideas?

First thing check fuse #40(20A) in the central junction box. Replace if bad. On the VSM module connector check the harness side pin (DB/OG)and ground for voltage(greater that 10 volts) If ok then check pin (RD/YE) to ground for voltage.(greater than 10 volts) If this is okay. then the problem is the VSM module nad it needs to be replaced. This procedure came from a 2007 service manual. The only time that the sensor would be bad is if the lights do not come on at all
