How soon to change oil?
There is no break-in period or no break-in oil anymore, so just at whatever interval you plan on changing it normally. I change mine between 3500 and 4000, usually about 3800. I take it to the dealer as they do it for about $25, and I want Motorcraft 5-20 and a Motorcraft filter.

I do the first oil change on all of my new vehicles at 500 miles, my second at 1500 miles, and my third at 3000 miles. From there on out I change the oil at 12 months or 3000 miles -- whichever comes first.
500 to 1,000 on a new motor. that crap was dirty as hell in my truck.
afterwards, I follow the 3,000 mile rule. sure you can follow the 5,000 mile recommended interval, but oil is cheap...engines aren't

That and I sent an oil sample to blackstonelabs at a 4,000 mile interval mostly city no towing or anything else and they said do NOT go any further. This is with M-craft oil so I call BS on Ford advertising 5,000 mile intervals anyway.
Same oil and filter in my wifes Honda(yes I said Honda) Blackstone said to at least try 5,000 miles if not more.
With the newer vehicles(with the use of Synthetic oil) abidding by the 5000 rule is fine, unless the oil level gets low before that mileage point. I did my first oil change in the truck at 5000. I would recommend anyone not using synthetic oil stick to the 3000 rule.

I agree with everyone else. I ALWAYS do my oil changes every 3000 miles. The only car I had that I changed every 5000 miles (the recomendation) was my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. I only used Mobil 1 in that car and changed it every 5000 miles because you needed 3 elbows, remove the power steering lines from the k-member and a whole lot of patience to get the filter off. I was only WILLING to do it every 5k miles.
