Help! fuel filter removal.

I'm changing my fuel filter for the first time and had no trouble with the blue clip my problem is the front of the filter. I have the silver ford tool (5/16) but i can't for the love of my life get the front end off? The tool fits around the line and goes about halfway into the fitting but that's as far as i can get it in there. I know there are tabe in there that are supposed to release the filter i just cant get them to release? anyone have any tips? i'm pretty much stuck in my driveway until i get the new filter on.

Try pusing the filter farther into the line with the tool in place. If it does not release, it may be frozen. I had this happen about the 3rd or 4th time I went to change mine. Ended up taking it to a lube place and the pulled it off. Had to replace the clip in the line. They said it was not too uncommon for it to happen.

That too was the hardest part both times I changed mine. Do what patman says and add a string of profanities and it should pop off

Thank's guy's, I tried everything and could not release the filter? I took it down to the dealer and they replaced the clip in the line wich was damaged. cost me $30 in labor from the dealer. was'nt to happy about going to the dealer but with all the trouble it was giving me i didnt want to damage anything. happy to say that my truck (2004 f-150) idles much better now and runs smoother. before at stop lights/signs when i would feather the gas a little it would sputter/shake slightly. now it doesnt.
this forum has been super helfull!

Glad you got it changed. Now, change it about every 15,000.

My GF's blazer gets a new filter every month because her tank is rusted from the inside. The gas tank has been removed, and put through an aresnal of chemicals to treat the rust. Its much better then it was, but there is alot of loose rust particles that keep getting sucked down the fuel lines. It really sucks

here is a link on the blue clip that you were probably having trouble with:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...lue-clips.html

it looks like one fitting uses the tool we are use to, and this is the other one.
