I have the Westin black step bars on my truck and love them. I have had them on truck for two years of harsh Upper Michigan winters and they are holding up really well.

Go alum. or S.S. You'll thank yourself in 5 years.

My S.S. nerf bars have been on my truck for almost 8 years and they still look brand new. If they where Black powdercoated steel they would have rusted off long ago.

The summit brand S.S. nerf bar is made by Westin I belive, and the price is better than the steel one.

isn't powdercoated supposed to be a good form of protection? so is painted aluminum better than powdercoated steel?

From what I hear N-Fab is pretty decent as well.

Powdercoat is a harder finish than paint. So it will hold up better to abrasion and wear.

If they eventually chip from a rock or something...
Aluminum won't rust like steel
But if its stainless steel then it won't rust anyway. (the link above is SS)

So it really comes down to which style you like
