Coin holder temp gauge

Since I have an XL (no outdoor air lcd) I was thinking of installing a outdoor air temp gauge in place of the coin holder. Anyone know if the wires to the coinholder would be usable for this application? Also the size of the gauge I'm looking at is 2 1/16" Dia., not sure if this would work?

Exactly, I know they are used for the 4wd switch, but will need a switched wire to the temp gauge.

the only thing about putting a gauge there is that when the gear shifter is in drive it blocks the gauge completely so you have to lean up or down to see the gauge

No problems there, it's a manual trans. I found one that would probably work, and the 2 1/16" opening should fit perfect. I have yet to figure out the electrical requirements, but shouldn't be a big deal. Also, anyone know where the sending unit is located??

I'm curious to see how this turns out for ya. Might be a worthy mod on my truck also.

Never though much about the temp until I got rid of my '06 xlt, especially when on a trip when your logging 500 miles, nice to see the temp outside. Should be able to do the mod for less than 100.00. found the gauge I like (ice blue lcd with black trim ring) for 56.00 plus 18.00 for the sending unit. Now where is the sending unit located on the f150?
Sidenote: can you cut and paste a photo on this forum? I've got pics of the truck and misc. I would like to share!

I believe you just pull it straight out. It should pop out.

just pull, it'll pop out. A 2 1/16" regular gauge should fit, you just have to fab up a mount. You might need to get a switched power too, I think those wires are constantly hot.
