Did Ford Ever Make a Factory Installed A.R.E. Cover?

I have a guy who says that our business damaged his ARE cover and that it was a factory installed item. It's a 2004 F150 supercrew. He wants $3000.00 from me for a new one. Just need some info thats all. Thanks

I know when I got my truck there was a ford sticker with a part# affixed to the underside of the tonneau, I know i would have taken a picture of it since i covered the underside to hide the bare fiberglass look, if i can find it i will post it up.

Thanks> Are you saying that it was listed on the sticker as a option or was it like a lot of dealers do and add it on to the sticker? Also this cover has the carpet option so there is no unfinished fiberglass and it has A.R.E. stamped on the lock and other places too.

Hey Roush from your sig do you have a Roush truck? Because if you do I am pretty sure they came with a tonneau cover.

I paid for my lid at the time I purchased my truck, but it was installed off site at an installer.

My A.R.E for my Lightning was almost 1000.00 so I think 3000.00 is a
little steep.

This is a pic of my hard cover, at the very bottom it reads if it needs service to go to a dealership. I guess this is the factory brand?

Thanks for your reply> The Leer cover is available from Ford through their parts, but is not "factory" installed. So you are correct in that it is serviced through Ford, but the dealer or a reginal facility more than likely put it on.

FWIW I found your Leer top on a Ford parts site and it listed for under $1200.00 painted. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, all the Ford Accessory ones are made by LEER. A.R.E. covers are not offered by Ford.
Maybe installed by the dealer before being purchased, but definitely not "Factory installed" or "factory accessory".

My dealership deals with one aftermarket installer who carries all brands of lid when paid for at the time of purchase. I got to choose which brand I wanted when I took the truck for the install. I chose a Snugtop Snuglid.

When I had problems with the struts on the lid I took it to the aftermarket dealer who installed the lid, not the Ford dealership.

It wasnt a window type of sticker, it was like a sticker you would find on a box of parts ( paper with sticky back ), there was an option to have the underside finished, because the unfinished box was checked, but im guessing the original owner didnt go for that from what i gathered when i was looking that was a 800.00 option or so my local dealer told me.

Im still looking for the photo as the sticker itself was brittle and was removed in pieces when we covered it ourself.

My truck is a Roush Clone, I have a Roush stang, after seeing how badly the value drops on these "speciality" vehicles I opted to clone mine instead of going for the real deal.

The Roush trucks dont come with a hard tonneau , instead they have the 3 piece spoiler. I looked into having my body shop mod my cover to make that work but never got around to it

Im not sure if it matters but the handle of my cover is Century, I dont know if thats a sub company of ARE.

Thanks folks for the replies. I confirmed it with my local Ford parts guy and yes there is a Ford hard cover with a Ford part#, but that was only offered through the Ford Accessories catalog, and it was made by Leer, and it was painted to match.

Ford never did offer one from the "factory" though except of course on the Sport-trac and a soft one on the Lightning, which I have.

The body shop found the part # and because it is obsolete he could only find one at a dealer across the nation. He did not check to see what brand it is, (LEER) so he priced it out with shipping and painting to the tune of $2700.00. The same LEER cover can be bought locally, installed and painted for $1100.00.

The problem this guy has though, is that it was a A.R.E. cover. Never a Ford option.

Thanks for all of your help.

What kind of damage is he claiming your business did to the lid? OT, but I know my parent's ARE lid's paint started to fade and it was covered under the ARE finish warranty.
