Do you feel inferior to pre 97?
I have owned a 93 bronco before this truck I have now and hands down this truck is 10 times better IMO. I have not had one problem besides regular maintenance and in this truck I feel very safe.
I owned a 2000 Lariat Scab Flareside which I traded in for my 06 Lariat Screw.
I loved the look of the 00, but the interior was 100% inferior to the 04+. There simply is zero comparison. The 97-03 was all hard plastic, and no where near as comfortable, quiet and luxurious.
The 97-03 actually received the LOWEST crash test rating from the IIHS, while the 04+ received the HIGHEST.
For me, the choice to "upgrade" was really quite simple. Opportunity knocked in the form of 0% interest for 72 months, X-plan, and a $13,000 trade in value (only had 56K on the 2000). That turns a $43k truck into a $300/month payment. Pretty much a no-brainer.

You do the math........

I felt my 99 was a little more 'tough' and rugged than my 06.
Just more of a 'truck' to me. I guess as someone said, they just keep getting more and more refined.......I dont mind (actually like) to feel like Im riding in a truck when Im in one, instead of feeling like Im in a car.

Touche.
I saw all the talk about the 97-03 and "assumed" that was what he meant. But you're right, the title of this thread is PRE 97.
Two different opinions, I don't mind progress in the form of suspension R&D. My opinion has always been that if I hit a bump in a big ole truck, I should feel it less than in a teeny tiny car, but for some reason it's always been the opposite till I test drove an 05 F150 and fell in love with it.
Couldn't disagree more with this statement. The '03 gives the illusion of more room because the seats are softer and you sit lower in them. I had an '03 for 2 days as a loaner while my '04 was in the body shop and I just couldn't get comfortable in it. I'm 6'2" and I felt like I had been poured into that '03. The '04-'08's have firmer seats and you sit higher in them. Of course everyone has their own definition of roomy, but for me the '03 at least wasn't a place I'd like to be on a long trip.

I can't even rest my arm on the window sill!
As for all around room I need to drive a new truck with a bench seat in it. I have always liked them better. That's what I have and all the new ones I've been in have had the huge waste of space center console.
