Experiences with extended warranties?

I have 600 miles and change before my 3/36K warranty is up and I want to buy and extended warranty, for peace of mind. Who has actual experience with using an extended warranty and what company would you recommend? Also, is it neccessary to buy the most expensive one or does the 2nd highest cover just about everything (expensive) as well? Thanks

You will hear both opinions on this one. The guys who bought the ESP and a blown transmission was covered, they will love it. While the guy who had 100,000 trouble free miles will say it is a waste of money.

only buy the Ford ESP. It may or may not be the cheapest around. Mostly depends on the dealership you buy it from. I suggest you search online. You can buy the Ford ESP from any Ford dealership anywhere in the country. Don't let your local guys feed you B.S. about it only being a local thing.

as for other brands...I've never actually been screwed by a Aftermarket warranty, but I have had my truck held hostage while waiting for them to pay up. And the no names are very very specific about what they will cover.

With the Ford ESP, you just pay your deductible and it's done. No waiting, no paperwork. The dealership has all the paperwork in his computer and the billing is automatic.

to get a repair done:
Drop off truck & Keys
Sign release form
Grab keys and drive off when repairs completed

I had an after market warranty on my last truck. They alway paid for the repair, but it was more work for the dealership which meant I had to wait longer. If the repair did not cost enough to interest them then they would tell me they don't handle that company.

Most people sell their truck before the extended warranty runs out. My last truck is still under the extended warranty I got for it. It's a probability question. I get them because I run my vehicles ten years, and it works out most of the time.

If your keep your vehicles, and get a good price on the warranty then it's a good deal. If you are already deciding between a new truck and an extended warranty, then the odds are already against you my friend.

You can get ESP prices online. I just don't remember where the link is. The price jumps when you go from 75,000 to 100,000 miles. I thought that 7 year 75,000 with $50 deductible was a good value on the bumper to bumper plan.

It's a big money maker for the dealers, so they push it. I have never bought one and have never regretted it. I have 73,800 miles and so far, I have spent $150 that might have been covered. Replaced front rotor due to bearing failure.

I would probably buy the 7/75k, I will have the truck for that long at least, I'm not so worried about the miles. The one I checked out was I think Ford ESP. com or something like that.

If I was going to get one, I would only consider one from the manufacturer. The others are famous for finding an exclusion and not paying or going under and leaving you stuck.

I friend of mine asked me about getting one on his new vehicle (after he had already bought it). I asked him a simple question "In your almost 50 years of driving, how many times would you have used an extended warranty?" He said never.

Most people who have mechanical problems seem to be the people who have repeated problems. If your driving habits, driving conditions or use makes you have a tendency to have mechanical problems, you might be wise to have an extended warranty. Many people do not and don't need an extended warranty.

I guess the biggest thing that I am worried about is a plug blowout. It happened on my mustang and cost me a bundle...but besides that I haven't had any major problems with a Ford....knock on wood. Like I said, I guess I would just be buying it for peace of mind. I am the second owner and can't attest the truck's first 22k. In addition to the previously mentioned site, what other sites sell reputable Ford warranties?

Definitely buy the Ford ESP. I bought my ’04 F-150 in Houston, TX and bought the 100K mile ESP from a dealer in New Jersey for 40% less than what my local dealer quoted me!

Was it worth it….emphatically, YES! The rear-end went out on my truck and the 4WD went out twice. The ESP cost me ~$1,400 and the repairs on the last two items alone would have been over $5K!

My wife and I just traded her Nissan Murano in on an ’08 Expedition and bought the 6/75K mile ESP for it.

Another benefit to buying a Ford ESP that hasn’t been mentioned is that if you trade in your vehicle prior to the ESP purchased mileage, you have the option of getting refunded the pro-rated mileage difference of the warranty. Or, you can negotiate the value of the warranty into the trade-in by offering to transfer the warranty.

Yep, I totaled my Ranger before getting my F150 and Ford sent me a check for the prorated amount left on the warranty.

I bought a 40,000/4 yr ext. Powertrain warranty when I bought my truck in Sept 07 but i've already run up 32,000 on the truck so that warranty will be useless in another 8,000 miles so I probably won't get any use of it but i'm still glad I had it just in case anything did go wrong cause all i would have had to pay was $100 deductible

I know this sounds liazy but does anyone have a link to the Ford employee pricing sites? Or would I just call my dealership? Right now I am looking at 1600ish for a 7/75k warranty with all the bells and whistles....1400ish for the next step down.
