Fiberglassing Push Start Ignition :D

I have been working on my truck until 3 am the last 4 days, replacing radiator (which did not completely fix overheating issue, still overheats if I'm just sitting in the heat, possibly a bad water pump and/or thermostat? Installing new thermostat tomorrow), rewiring all my old projects and making them look fancy, replacing slip yoke output shaft seal (which did not fix the leak completely ;mad: ), removing the bedrug, steam cleaning it and putting on new velcro strips, replacing yet ANOTHER hub, replacing driveshaft because ujoints went out and my driveshafts u-joints were not serviceable, running a rocker switch to my efans with 2 green led indicators to show when each one fails with a custom little pinhole on each side of the switch (the leds shine through pinhole), running a switch to power the stereo system with the key out of the ignition for those days at the lake, and more I cannot think of at the moment. May even fiberglass a LCD into the tailgate if I get good enough at this ;lol: What can I say, I have a newfound love for the truck, I wish I felt this way a couple years ago because I would have a brand new truck to this day. Ah well, shouldn't be negative.

Right now I am still in the middle of my first fiberglass project and it's turning out well, spent over 60 on supplies and I still need to go back tomorrow for more. Thought I'd keep you guys in the loop since I never show you anything anymore ;sad:

I have fiberglass all over my arms and it stings, it wasn't so bad handling it but it was using the dremel I believe that got the ultra fine dust/hair particles into my skin. Any ideas on getting this out? Also, there will be a rocker switch with those 2 led's on the empty side of that bezel. I also recessed the cig lighter, I hate that lip. I was thinking of adding a lit up "GETSTUK" text with an orange cathode behind it somewhere, that is my license plate and what everyone knows the truck as. If you have any other ideas I could do as far as dash lighting, I'm all ears because I am not sold on this idea just yet. I think my next mod will be fiberglassing my edge pod into the dash somewhere. Enough rambling, just thought I'd update you guys on the truck.

Edit: Jesus, I wish I would have known fiberglass was not to be handled...my arms are shredded

Geese, keeping busy!

I did a lot of custom glassing in my Focus and never even once had issues with the itching people talk about.

However, I was wearing a full blown suit like the government officials (including mask and goggles) in E.T. haha.

Oh, and since I never posted them before...here's the finished results (Sorry for the minor derail)

and so you can see what it is in...

[QUOTE=Josiah;3345739]... (which did not completely fix overheating issue, still overheats if I'm just sitting in the heat, possibly a bad water pump and/or thermostat? Installing new thermostat tomorrow)...

The water pump either works or doesnt work at all. I dont see how its possible that it would cause overheating.

Was your radiator damaged or visibly clogged? Start with the cheapest part first if you are changing parts to troubleshoot.

BTW yes, fiberglass gets itchy. It will wear out of your skin in a few days. I was told to avoid hot showers. I dont know if it makes a difference or now.

I hope that you had a dust mask on? If not the same thing is going on in your lungs right now. Enjoy.

Before you start glassing again rub your arms down with some baby powder if you have some around or wear a long sleeve shirt and wrap tape around you wrists. The powder keeps it from sticken on ya.

hllon4wheels, my biggest hunch is the radiator came used and slightly bent at the bottom but the veins appeared to be ok, the radiator it replaced had a visible leak. I'm thinking either it has partially clamped veins/coolant lines inside of the radiator slowing down the flow. If anything that should cool off the coolant more sitting inside the radiator longer. The truck runs great when I'm moving, but when I sit at a stoplight the one coolant fan is not enough. My other hunch is the thermostat. I bought one the other day and can't find it

And I'm going to wear a long sleeve shirt this time around and throw some baby powder on. Damn it's hot. Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated.

Make sure you get a ford thermostat, if you have an aftermarket one, there could be a good chance thats whats doing it, Mine overheated intermittently with an aftermarket, never with the ford one

You better trim those nails before they poke through your rubber gloves.

Like my dad always said "Paint 'em or cut 'em".

If the glass hairs are already in you, A little trick I use to pull them out is duct tape. Just make a tape donut and tap over the aeras that itch. It usually makes a big difference

Looks good Josiah!

For fiberglass on the skin rub the affected areas with panty hose. Sounds stupid but it actually works.

This is to keep your poures closed, otherwise fibreglass will get into the poures of your skin and cause more irritation. But if you were sweating while working with it, its not going to matter, it'll stay there till it comes off itself.

I don't know what you mean by saying it will wear out your skin. My skins all still here..

I'm used to the irritation.

I currently have a ford one in there, but I have a aftermarket one I'm about to install right now made by Stant. I will let you know what happens. I need to go get a filler to fill in the small holes left behind, not sure what I'm going to use...maybe bondo reinforced filler.
