rear suspension: lift block or AAL?
rear suspension: lift block or AAL?
What are the advantages or disadvantages of each?
I got the AS 2.5" in the front, and have an AAL1.5 for the rear. Went to a friends shop and he said I should do the rear block and not the AAL.
However, I noticed most here seem to to the AAL...
Thanks for the help, guys!

I have a 5 inch block from fabtech, then I moved the coils up on my front coilovers so I added an add a leaf. An add a leaf will allow more weight capacity because you are "adding a leaf" a block is just that, a block to raise the rear of the truck this will not affect the weight capacity.
Is the ride that much more harsh with an AAL?
It's for an 08 FX4 SCrew 6.5' bed. I don't tow all that much, and I usually don't have a lot in the bed. although I will be putting in a box and some stuff in it.

So what is our friend's reason for a block instead of a leaf?
The taller the block, the more axle wrap you will have. If you tow loads, you will notice a difference in the way the rear handles the load. I went with a leaf and have a 2 inch AS on the front. Sure the ride will be a little stiffer, but you will have a little more stability in the rear. If you do nothing else but drive the truck around with no hauling/towing, then go with the block to keep the softer ride.

Block: maintains factory ride, but causes wheel hop with bigger blocks...very cheap though
AAL: stiffens up the ride, better control with heavy loads...but can be almost double the price of a block
I personally would do the 3" Autospring block...after that, I would say that you should do a AAL. the 3" is only 1" taller than stock, so you can minimize all the bad aspects of blocks.
If you're looking to go taller, AAL is the only way to go....besides, it's a truck...they ride rough

i hear of people paying $120 for a block. i paid $110 for my AAL and i love it. im glad i went with the AAL over the block. truck seems to be stiffer in the rear but its a truck. its not an uncomfortable stiffness or anything. and truck does not sag at all when i throw my dirtbike or other loads like that in the bed.

oh well, the 3" block will be fine I think. I'm only looking for a little bit more height out back

You'll be very happy with the block... Really finishes the leveling off nice!!
Just don't try jumping into your bed after you install it...
First time I did that I slammed my knee into the tail gate.
When you put it in...
