Truck in shop for recall and startup rattle
Truck in shop for recall and startup rattle
I dropped my pickup at the local dealership Wednesday night to get the brake recall taken care off and the startup rattle looked at. As i explained to the guy that this rattle sounds only during the first crank of the day and is especially loud in the morning and when wet. refer to this thread https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...up-rattle.html
I didn't get a call all day yesterday so I called my service adviser after lunch today and he talks to the mechanic and basically tells me that the noise was duplicated but he still did not have a diagnosis. I know they are doing the best they can but its frustrating not having my truck especially during this tropical storm. When i first dropped it off, the adviser seemed to think it was valves. I'm hoping that since i have documented evidence that this problem happened prior to the 3/36 running out that ford will step up. If not i do have a ESP.
Anybody else have a diagnosis for the startup rattle or any ideas i may throw at them?

I took mine in for the same sound about a week after I bought it. It took a few of tries, but the service dept finally gave in when I showed up with the FSB about the cam phaser issue. It took about 4 days to have it done, but no more start up rattle.

Ford dealershiip had my truck since last wed. and they have it narrowed down to either the timing chain tensioner or valves. I am waiting on my ESP provider to authorize repaire. Should know within the day. Will keep posted

Who is your ESP provider ?
CostGuard. They have authorized any repair on the engine. Tech should start tearing into the engine today tho. If its not the valves i think they have to pull the engine to get to the timing chains? If thats the case a rep from the company has to come down and verify which will take 2 or 3 more days if not longer
I thought startup rattle most most always the timing chain tensioner. If you do not have an oil filter with a leak down valve then it would for sure leak down or if it's o-ring was bad it would leak down. Either way it would be loose when you first start the truck then after a couple of seconds it would re-pressurize and not rattle anymore.
