What is this part for.

You can see it hanging down in this pic below my bumper. Its seems to attach at the bottom of the engine like a cover. Is that all it is or is it used for anything. It has pulled away from the plastic grommets that where holding it in place. Can I replace it with something better?

Its made out of a flexible rubber substance. It goes from the back of the bumper and attaches to the bottom of the engine about two feet back from the bumper

Looks like your motor has completely fallen out Time for a new truck.

Just kidding.

Like the other poster said, it appears to be the rubberized cover that prevents road grime from splashing up and gumming up your transmission cooler. I would just poke new holes thru it and secure it with zip ties until you can buy a replacement.

i believe it is to prevent recirculation of post radiator hot air back to intake of condenser/radiator when truck idling sitting still..So the air stays coming through grill and bumper not from under neath truck..could be wrong tho

Same with mine, if it is the rubber matting.
I tore mine right off when i went river rafting
so now when ever i go over 80mph it pops loose!
Ford sells it for about $35 and supposedly it comes with those cheap plastic gripper push thingies??
I have yet to replace mine.. no temp changes though?
Maybe one day when i feel its necesary I'll go buy it. but until then I keep buying more usefull things like speakers..

also helps to dirrect air flow into the radiator from the bumper area when driving down the road.

you can put some cheap bolts in it with large flat washers, holds up pretty well.

Everything mentioned so far is the purpose of that rubber mat. Just reattach it until you can purchase a new one.
