05 F-150 Screw 5.4 Missing/Clunking Issue

Hello All,

Last week I traded in my 2003 F-150 Lariat for a 2005 F-150 Lariat with 53,000KM. (25,000 miles or so?)

Problem #1. The engine will do this erratic idle thing where it gets really chunky for about 10 seconds and then dissapears.

Problem #2. There seems to be a clunk coming from the transmission/rearend during shifting from 2nd to 3rd and while cruising. It does it intermittently and with no real pattern. It seems to be shifting at odd times?

Take it into Ford and they did some sort of TSB for the rear end and also changed the #3 and #8 wires and coil packs.

I drive it off the lot and not even 100 feet down the road and it starts doing the idling thing again... Drive it a little further and there is that tell-tale clunking again...

It feels to me it's coming from the tranny, I notice it the most when on Cruise Control and just starting to accelerate (it feels like it's running rough?) and also if I going downhill, and sometimes even just cruising at constant pace there is this lurch/clunk/shudder that happens intermitently from the rear...

The shifts when I put the pedal down seem fine, and acceleration seems fine. It's just when I am cruising along this seems to be an issue. It's been into Ford twice and they are about to get it back. If any of you have any ideas as to what the issue may be it would be nice to go back in there armed with something! Thanks for any advice.

Carl

Me as well, if I punch the throttle it does this same thing. I have been told by a ford tech it could be cam phasers....
