ScanGauge question!

Im going to mount my SG below the mirror. Now the cable that came with the SG is not long enough. Will a standard cat 5 cable work to extend it? Or is there some other type of cable i have to use.

i ordered mine with an extension and by looking at the colors of the internal wires, it looks like a standard (not cross over) cat-5 line to me.

Well i went a bought a cat 5 cable and a coupler female to female and connected it but it did not work. I think it must be a special type.

or watch this: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=0NnKtq-fj9Q

edit: I did some searching and everyone on other forums says its standard cat-5. did you get a crossover cable by chance? look at the colors of the wires on the rj-45 conectors. If they are exactly the same you must have a bad coupler or cable. If they are a mirror image of each other you have a crossover cable that will not work.

Hey thirdgenbird,

Thanks for your help. But i got it to work. It turns out it was a bad coupler. The cat 5 cable was fine. Got it mounted today. I made a blend mount myself and it looks great under the mirror.

Thanks again bud.

PS. Nice link on utube.

I just bought a new Scan Gauge. I am trying to add additional codes for Transmission temp and Cyl head temp. The directions to do this are on page 25 of the owner manual. You have to get the Ford codes from the Scan Gauge web site which I did. Anyway I loaded the additional Ford codes as per the owners manual but the scan gauge will not read the info from my 2008 F-150. It will however read the Transmission Temp and CyL head temp on my 2002 mustang so I Know I programed the correct Ford codes in the Scan Gauge. Anyone out there that has one of these been able to load the extra Ford codes and get a newer F-150 to read?
