stock fan

i'm thinking about puttin a e-fan on my 08 s-crew, and i was wondering about the wires that are going to my stock fan clutch. will it throw a cel if i unplug the sensor, or what ever it is, and if it does throw a cel, can a costume tune fix it? thanks for any help

First off... the fan is a viscous coupling type clutch. Meaning it engages manually when the speed of the engine is risen for about 5 to 10 seconds, and it locks in place to match the speed of the accessory belt. Other than that, like at idle, that fan might be doing 500 rpms... if it were to be locked, it would be doing 800 or higher rpms... It also has fluid that is able to sense high temperatures, hence the vicous coupling, and if it gets hot enough, it will also lock.

No it won't throw a CEL... in fact, it can't... unless the truck overheats, but then you have bigger issues. So no "costume tunes" needed.

If you do some searching around, there are some really great write-ups on how to do it properly.

sounds good. i have done the e-fan swaps before, but this is the first time i have ran across the new manual fan set up. do you guys think it will pick up with the e-fan versus the new manual set up? thanks for your help.
