Rusting steps - Warrantied?

Hopefully i don't get flamed for asking, but here it goes.
I am just out of my 3yr 36000 warranty
I own an '04 F150 supercrew and my black OE steps are beginning to rust is there any chance these can be covered under the warranty?
if anyone has anything that might help, advice, insight let me know.
thanks
Graham

How are you just out of your warranty? At the most it went out in 07'.

Either way, its out, so no it wouldnt be covered.

You are at least 8 months out on you warranty if you go by the 36 months. You can try going to your dealer and asking them nicely if they can help you out.

My dad has a Focus that had some warranty work done just out of warranty. It needed the head replaced. Not a cheap job for sure. Our dealer was nice enough to use his power to get it fixed. I've heard that dealers have some leeway with this kind of thing.

my 06 steps are doing it also. mine were caused by road grit though. The Ford dealer said no to the steps and the front bumper. can't really be mad since I agree that it's a user problem, not manufacture defect

I was referring to the original post.

I don't see why they wouldn't in your case.

they were like that when i bought the truck. i didnt notice it untill i washed my truck that weekend. since i bought it used and out of state, i didnt bother with it.

i wouldnt say its rust. they are the black oem step bars. the gloss black by the front rubber step is flaking off?

ill try and get a picture when i get off work.

i think i read some other people had that problem, but they just re-painted the whole steps.

Sucks because the rust is bubbling on the drivers side step around the plastic step pads.
I more or less knew, as someone else said, I was long past my 3yr 36k. But I called my dealer anonamously(SP?) and they said I was just outside of my warranty?

Thanks guys. I just wanted to check and see if anyone else has had any luck. Looks like I'll be removing them for now, and hoping and waiting and waiting and waiting, and hoping til I can afford some AMPresearch steps and a Rize lift

Take some sandpaper($5), sand em down.

Take some Gloss black ro flat black ro whatever floats your boat. get some Rustoleum ($5) and bam, its fixed. I would tape off the steps, to keep them looking nice. There are niver rattle cans available, thats just a popular one, and one I was just using this morning.

I would do that but the rusting butts up right next to the pads! maybe I'll try and remove the pads? I'll have to see how much beer I buy for this weekend?

Well, Just get the tape real close, and sand real close, and spray. As long as you tape properly, it shouldn't be a problem at all. Just a thought. Not sure if those pads actually do come off, but I know you can paint right up to them!

If it's between the FRONT and REAR bumpers it should be covered under your "BUMPER to BUMPER" Warranty......

"You are at least 8 months out on you warranty if you go by the 36 months. You can try going to your dealer and asking them nicely if they can help you out."

I did this when I had my mustang the washer motor had gone out 6 months after my warranty was up... This also happend in the middle of the winter on a ****y day on my hour long ride to work...

So I brought the stang in got a call saying I was out of warranty...
I exsplaned to them my situation and asked what they could do...
They met me in the middle and prorated the job!!!

If you think your steps are rusty, take a look at your spare tire rim...
