As odd as it may sound there are only 3 places of rust on my entire truck. The muffler(expected) the driveshaft(expected), and the fricken step(unexpected). I clean the underside of my truck regularly and the spare is holding up fairly good! just oxidation but no rust.

I think I'll hold off on painting my steps for now, because its going to be alot of sanding!!! I'm not one to spot sand.
