Oil Filter Torque
Oil Filter Torque
Whew!! Ford seriously needs to review either the torque spec for the oil filter or the process they use to put it on. Just did the first oil change and the factory filter was on there pretty solid. Using an oil filter wrench similar to a pair of channel locks it crushed the filter. I was starting to get worried I was going to have to take some drastic measures to get the bloody thing off.
Job done and Valvoline synthetic is now flowing through her "veins".
Interesting point...my wifes 4.0L Mustang and my F-150 use the same oil filter. I LIKE that. Going to have to order these in bulk.

I was pretty sure the engines arrived with the filter on. Made sense as before leaving the engine plant each engine is tested on an engine stand. At least that was what I recalled at TCAP for the 2.3L, 3.0L and 4.0L Ranger engines when I used to go there.
I liked the 600 pound gorilla thought too.

I changed oil for 2 years and on ALL new f150s the filters were way too tight from the factory. Once I pulled one off and the part you screw the filter on came off with it is was so tight. I forgot the name of the part though, its been a few years. They over tighten them and put them on dry....those 2 things are bad news when you mention oil filters in the same sentence.
