Rear view mirror compass question

Can anyone tell me if the compass part of the rear view mirror can be removed from the rear view mirror alone or is it attached and the mirror and compass come off as 1? Reason i ask is yesterday i had an eyebrow tint applied to my windshield by ziebart and it appears they were affraid to remove my mirror or maybe its just procedure, not sure..but they cut a slit in the tint down from the window mount to the end of the tint and to me it looks alittle tacky, it didnt match up perfectly and you can see through the slit..they said thats how its done, dunno if i believe that. But anyway id like to maybe put a tiny piece of electrical tape along the seem or something to make it look better but the big compass below the mirrors in the way for me to do it.. Or if anoyone else had the same thing done was there a quick fix to make it look better? Thinking of maybe even bringing it back.. Any opinions good or bad i appreciate..ty..
