Exclamation 07 rear window leak

As the rains came down like a monsoon today I noticed water leaking in my truck from the back window! I took it by my local Ford dealer and have an appointment to have it repaired tomorrow evening. My service advisor said it is a common problem due to a bad 3rd brake light seal.Anyone else have this problem? Is there a TSB on it?

water leak

apparently this is an ongoing problem. my 04 was leaking bad. with suggestions that i found here, i unscrewed the third break light and found the seal flat as paper. i bought some foam trim and replaced it, the leak is less, but i think the third breaklight is cracked. my fault i guess.

just my 2 cents.

It was leaking on my 06 and my father's 06 as well. Pulled the 3rd brake light, cleaned it, RTV'ed the seal and the screw holes. No leaks now.

My 2004 just started to leak from the window. Water got on my amps behind the seats and shoted them out. Any suggestions on what would be best to use in order to seal the brake light.

My '06 leaked too. Strange thing was it leaked once, looked to be about 1/2 gallon of water. Made an app't for service and forgot about it, never leaked again. Maybe conditions were right for expansion, wind driven rain or whatever, but it was a 1x occurance. It did look like it originated from the area of the 3rd brake lamp.

Mine was leaking at the top on the corner, I just shot some clear silicone in there and it is fine now.

My old '06 did it. I bought a roll of weatherstrip from Homedepot. Pulled the 3rd brake light and removed the old seal as best I could. Put the new weatherstrip on and it fixed the problem. Dry as a bone after that.

If you go this route get the thinnest triple seal out there. I think it was 5/16" or something like that. I'd have to look at the product in the store to be sure though.

I had the leaking, but it wasn't the third break light it was the seal around the window. I'd get that checkd out as well, not very expensive to have a window place fix it.

Thumbs up

Well, its fixed. The dealer subs it out to a local glass shop.He had to seal a hole where the wires come thru the cab to the 3rd brake light and install a bigger better gasket.

Took off the third brake light and added a bead of sealant around the whole assembly. The factory gasket was not lookin to good at all. I should now within a day or two as the rains continue if this does the trick.

So far my fix has passed the test as it has rained a few times and been through car washes with no issues. Sealing up the leak only took me 10 min.
