Leveling kit on 08 SCrew & offset wheels

Hey...

08 SCrew FX4 Stock wheels (20) and suspension.

Eventually I want to put a real lift kit on it, but for now I'm going with AS 2.5 leveling and the 1.5 add-a-leaf.

I like the wide look with wheels/tires. Can I get wheels with some offset to make them stick out more and have it be OK?

My mind isn't made up on which wheels, but I think I'm going with Toyo M/T's either 33 or 35's (I'd really like the 35's if I can get them to fit).

If they stick out too far I'll just get some Fender Flares (bushwhacker - pocket style).


How much (if any) offset should I go with?

Whats the stock offset (not backspace) on the 08 f-150 fx4 screw (stock 20's)?

Not the best pics to show it, but they give you an idea.....




Wheels are 18x9s, 5 inches of backspacing. Tires are 325-60-18s (33x13)
From the top of the fender wells, to the outermost edge of the tire, I would say there is a good 1.5-2 inches that they stick out.

Unless you go with a wheel that is VERY close to stock specs, which WONT get you the wide stance you are looking for, you wont fit 35s with just a leveling kit and AAL.
I had to trim the front valance, and inner fender and fender flare just to get out of my yard. When I back up at full lock I still get some rubbing, and once I get of the road, holy hell its rub central.

If you actually use the truck offroad and are concerned about rubbing, I wouldnt use a combo like this without more lift, not to mention every little bit of mud or dirt gets thrown on the side of the truck, and you wont have any paint within a year-trust me. Tis the reason mudflaps, wider flares, and a REAL lift are on my list. The AS is a POS for about anything but pavement pounders IMO. Unfortunatly I didnt know this till after I bought all this and installed it.
If you keep it on the pavement for the most part you are probably ok though.

I've actually decided to go with Toyo M/T 33x12.5's, and get 35's when I put a real lift kit on later.

I'm just trying to decide on the wheel I want. Looks & offset...

I do 95% on-road, but do a little towing and some off-roading when I'm hunting/camping.

hey BlitzK...try the 35x12.5x20's. They will fit. At most, you will have to trim a little bit of the valance and some of the inner fender plastic by the frame. If you try them and it doesn't work out, you're only out the the test fit time. Plenty of people have had them fit just fine with a 2.5" leveling kit (btw, you don't need anything for the rear). The only reason I don't have the Toyo 35x12.5x18 right now is because the $1,800 that the tire dealer wanted for 4 tires.

that's funny, because I put 35x12.5x18 Toyo M/T's on my truck and had 0 issues with rubbing on my OEM FX4 rims. There are lots of guys running 35" tires on their stock 18" and 20" rims

The AS is a POS for about anything but pavement pounders IMO. Unfortunatly I didnt know this till after I bought all this and installed it
can you explain that one? I did some pretty serious 4x4 before the AS install. Then did more after the AS install. besides the higher ride height, the truck acted exactly the same.


could your issues be more due to the rims you have? the higher backspacing than OEM will cause the outer edges to swing more and make them contact the frame sooner

that is why you rub like crazy. you have 13" wide tires plus about 1/2" more backspacing...this makes the outer edges of the wheel closer to the frame/bumper and the extra width of the tire makes it worse

that's funny, because i put 35x12.5x18 toyo m/t's on my truck and had 0 issues with rubbing on my oem fx4 rims. There are lots of guys running 35" tires on their stock 18" and 20" rims

35x12.5 fit fine with a leveling kit on the stock wheels or wheels with specs very very close to the stock ones. The reason i rub so bad, as you said, is because of my wide azz tires, wheel offset, and wide wheels. The stock wheels keep everything tucked in there enough that there isnt an issue with rubbing. Hence the reason i stated that unless he ran the stock wheel, or a an aftermarket wheel, which he wanted to do, that was close to stock specs, he wouldnt fit a 35 inch tire, and still get the wide stance he wanted

no doubt, the bit of extra ground clearance is nice. I have various little complaints about the as, but probably the thing about the as that bothers me the most is when the susp. Is at full droop, the upper control arm rest on the coil spring, and the cv angles are crazy at this time too. If your like me, you spend about as much time with your wheels off the ground as you do with them on the ground...when your haulin **** down a trail, pasture, etc, and your suspension is constantly going down to full droop and smacking the coil spring, damn near pulling the cv joint apart and whatever else, you cant tell me thats good.

exactley, my rubbing problems are related directley to my wheel and tire choice. I never blamed the rubbing on the as though....

I've broken enough stuff in other trucks that I prefer to go nice and slow now. My wife didn't appreciate it the last time her head hit the roof

Yep. I like to go fast...probably to fast. If I would slow down Im sure my truck would last longer...but ehh, whats the fun in that. I can fix it myself anyway so Im not to concerned, Ill just make it stronger

This is exactly why i just waited and saved for a full suspension lift. When its 5 minutes until shooting time, and your running late still in the truck and not in the blind, going slow is no option....you gotta haul **** through the muddy fields and the suspension works HARD.

We're installing it saturday, im stoked! i cant stand looking at the lift just sitting in my garage.

Awsome, I want to see some pics of that Msall.

Did you end up going with the 4" Rancho then?


Im still tossing around the idea of limiting straps on my truck. Its no fun having to tone down your driving for fear that your front end is going to fall apart.
