If you are going to go through the hassle of a gear swap, definitly do 4.10s.

I was just wondering on a write up I can get these gears used out of a fx4 for 50 bucks

Tylus Jul 22, 2008 08:51 PM

don't do it. the 3.73 change is not worth the effort/money you'll spend to change out gears. get 4.10 or 4.30 gears. It'll make your truck a different beast

about 200-300 rpm max...so you should still be under 2000 rpm at 65 mph

where can i look upwhat all is excatly in my rear end? or where can i reference my diffs id tag?

Tylus Jul 22, 2008 11:16 PM

I'm about 1600-1700 rpm at 65 mph with my 3.73 gears

I'm thinking you will be 1900-2000 rpm with 4.10 gears

If you have never really played with rear ends, or unless you have a buddy or two that is a mechanic (who knows what he is doing) that can help you, dont do the install youself.

Its not so much installing them, but setting them up.

Does the 200-300rpm take much from the mpg?

Here are two links the first one I explain what is on the id tag. And the second one is a write up on the gears themselves.

Id tag

Hope this helps.
