I have had my 08 for about two months now and every now and then there is a slight grinding noise right after the engine fires during start up. I think it has something to do with the starter, but it happens so fast that it is hard to pin point. I am bringing it back to the dealer next week but I would like some feed back on possible things that they should look for. I really hate having to bring the vehicle back to the dealer multiple times for the same problem.

Sounds like you got a lazy stater solenoid. Not disengaging quickly enough. For an 08, they should replace the whole starter, Just a thought.

 

Yeap, defiantly take it in. My 05 had starter issues. Replaced TWICE at the dealer... the third time it blew, I installed a high torque starter myself and haven't had a problem since.

 

Thanks for the replies. The starter is what I was leaning towards but I am by no means an expert. Hopefully they fix it right the first time.

 

shaunakadub, Just curious, where did you find the high torque starter? My 04 only has 16,500 miles on it but I do most driving in town and short trips. My starter gets alto of use and when the time comes to replace it I would like to go your route. Thanks

 

It was a Tilton SuperStarter. It's made for the 4.6 and 5.4, and is a mini-starter with a lot of power. A little pricey, but if your looking to cure bad starter problems (like mine was), its worth it.
