Rear bumper swap
Rear bumper swap
I have a slight dent in my rear bumper, from whoever owned it before me. I was wondering if I should replace it myself or take it to a body shop. I found the bumper for about 200 bucks online. The part that concerns me is there is a lot of plastic attached to it and hardware (license plate, trailer hitch, ect.) I don’t want to end up buying new trim or not torque bolts to the correct torque. I figure it would take a good 4 hours minimum. Just wonder if anyone has changed one out or has any advice.
try 10-20 minutes to swap a bumper
1. unbolt OEM from truck
2. put on ground
3. remove all the trim and other misc crap
4. install trim/crap onto new bumper
5. get a buddy to help hold the bumper and rebolt new one to truck
6. make sure it's aligned and tighten
or, just leave it alone. small dents aren't worth worrying about. It's a truck. Anyways, here is a blown-up schematic of the rear bumper. It's quite easy, and the torque specs are on the drawing

I managed to swap out my dented bumper a while back by myself, it's pretty heavy and ackward with the hitch on it. I taped some card board to the sides of the box to protect it from scratches.
I tried removing the plastic trim but wrecked the tabs in the process, I think I read on here everyone seems to break them. Probably best to order another while you're at it.
