Passenger Side Mirror Replaced

Whew, darn mirrors aren't cheap! $150 for a new passenger side mirror (power only, no heat or turn signal).

Story: Driving back from Home Depot on Friday afternoon and went under an overpass in a construction zone. The right-hand lane is right up to the pillar supports. Looked in my side view mirror and saw a GMC swerving toward me. I was hugging the right-hand side to avoid trading paint with the other driver. Ended up clipping the concrete support for the overpass with my passenger side mirror. Broke the housing and lost the glass...fortunately no other damage to the truck. Wonder if the state of Michigan will reimburse me for the mirror. Yeah, right.

Any way, spent the ENTIRE weekend driving around and coming to realize that I use that mirror WAAAAY more than I would imagine. Every time I looked over for traffic on my right I was cursing under my breath because I couldn't see over there. Glad to have the mirror back.

On a bright note, anyone interested in the inner workings of a power mirror? The motor still works...just no glass and the housing has a big **** chunk missing.

By the way, for those who wish to replace the mirror on their own, this was a piece of cake. Took me about 10 minutes. Biggest obstacle was I realized after about 3 attempts to lift the door trim off the door that the speaker needed to be removed as well.

Yeah at first the speaker didn't look attached to the panel. I found my mirror at a junkyard for a 100 bucks in great shape. I think you could've ordered parts off one of the retailers for less than 150.

Yeah, I could have ordered on but darn it, I really missed seeing out that side of the truck so I wanted to get one ASAP. Backing up was a pain without it.

I just found the claim form from the state so I'll see if they will pay me back. The worst they will do is say "no".

Yeah good luck. It was definitely a PITA driving around without a sideview mirro.
