What's the most fuel efficient truck motor?
I can fish for a month with that can of worms you opened. But seriously, I had a 2002 f-350 w the 7.3 that had enough power and while driving through Yellowstone park, I got a little over 23 mpg on that tank. I was going to tow a 5ver with it when I retired but the wife want jacuzzis and room service instead so I traded it in. I miss it, but do not miss the fuel cost now days and the cost of oil and filter when it comes time to service it. As far as tranny, the more power, the less life your going to get if auto, and more clutch replacement if a hanshaker if you start building power, since I have no idea what your plans are I really can't be much help.
It isn't the 5.4L, I know that.
Toyota made a 4cyl engine for their older compact trucks. I think it was the
F22. Probably one of the best motors ever made.
Consider selling and buying a mid or compact pick-up if you don't want/need a 1/2 ton truck or the MPG that goes along with one.

a parked truck! good fuel efficiancy and plenty of power when needed!
Chevy is making a hybrid silverado next year!!!! since your looking into off brands!
Sure why not? I've had Chevy's and they were more dependable than my Ford so far. No manufacturer is loyal to me so why should I be to them? Brand loyalty is stupid. In the end you hear some guy saying he bought vehicle after vehicle by a certain company to only get screwed in the end.
I wish the motor was more fuel efficient and tranny to aid it. But really I'm asking are there any better engines out there? Like that straight 6 Chevy put in their Trailblazer, doesn't it get good fuel economy with decent power? Wonder if it'll fit.
Add a turbocharger to any decent v8 truck motor and it will get better mileage and lots of mid-range power. The most fuel efficent engines are ohc multi-valve (e.g. 3v, 4v) ones. That accounts for just about every motor out there.
Don't expect it to be a rocket off the line, but when that thing spools up, head for the hills.
That, aside from removing weight off the truck or reducing friction, is the ONLY way you will get the most efficient truck motor.

Tranplanting a different make of motor into a 150 would be a logistical nightmare. Yeah, it can be done, but who wants to spend the money to do that? These trucks have no resale value, so hopping into a more fuel efficient ride would be a big lo$$. Adding a turbo would increase your mileage and power...if you can discipline yourself to not stomp the pedal all the time. Your 150 weighs too much to put in a 6-cylinder displacing less than 4 liters, because it would work the motor too much. The best thing to do right now is to park it, buy a fuel efficient "beater" around 2-3K, and drive it. Right now, there is no great solution for your problem.
Company vehicle is an 06 trailblazer EXT 4x4. Get 18.5 ish on the hwy. Complete dog down low. OK passing power.
Yeah I'm sticking with my truck for the long run. Even if I get a beater for a few thousand it's less than the amount of money I would spend on gas on my truck and that doesn't include insurance.
Just wondering if there are any really fuel efficient truck motors and I guess there really isn't. I don't really like turbocharged motors but that's just my personal preference.
