Replacement tailgate

I'm sure this has to have been covered before but I didn't find anything under search.

Long sad story short I need a new tailgate for an '07. Any idea on the cheapest way to go about this?

I need it in black, if that matters.

If I do find a used one, are all '04 and up tailgates the same?

Thanks!

I see them pretty often on the Dallas craiglist. Cheap, too, so makes me wonder if they might be stolen.

Didn't find anything in Craigs list that looked on the level. Did find a paint/body shop that sells painted to match on Ebay. He has a very high satisfaction rating and all he does is sell painted body parts. Over 800 sales so looks to be a decent bet.

One question, how doable is it to take off and reinstall the old tailgate, handle/lock mechanism and decals? I've got a factory service manual I haven't had a chance to check it out yet though.

I feel a little better after seeing the pricing. Looks to be ~$500 painted. I was thinking it was going to be over $1k.

I think new ones are about $1200. I don't think it would be anything too major to switch out the hardware. The one's I saw on Craigslist were $100 to $200, as I recall.

Very easy. 500 is a good deal. My dad got one for 300 and I think it was another 300 to get it painted.
