Climate Control unit

Just thought I would relay some info I learned today.
This morning my climate control would not work, press auto and nothing, no lights no fan running. left it for 30 mins then when i press auto, the lights and fan run 1/2 second then stop then 1/2 second then stop. Will do this as long as auto pressed.
Phoned dealer no input.
Phoned local shop, they did some searching, came up with key in the on position, lights on low beam, diconnect negative terminal, press brake for 5 seconds, wait 1/2 hour.
Worked
Apparently this cleans out the gremlins.
Maybe a tech here on website can explain it better or explain what this does.
But it worked, climate control working fine.
Did everyone except me know this????
