Trade in Price........WOW

WOW.. is all i got to say. I sure was in shock for what they were offering for my truck. My truck is in great shape runs awesome but i was just looking for something with a little better gas mileage and a little less of a payment, but for the prices they were offering for my truck it was down right ridiculous.

I own a 2004 Ford f150 XLT 5.4 with 46500 miles. Went to three dealers one offered 8500, 7700, 8100. I was in total shock. I guess im keeping my truck, going to have to buy a scooter to get a around, these $100 fillup sux. Good luck to all out there in the trade in process hope you do better than me.

I have a '97 Ranger (4-banger & automatic) that I use for a daily driver, so I don't worry about what kind of fuel economy my F-150 or my Mustang get.

However, on my business trip over to San Antonio and back this past week, I figured mileage and only got a shade over 20 mpg with the Ranger! I was thinking to myself that if I ever had to drive my F-150 as an every day vehicle, there really wouldn't be that much difference in fuel costs between the two trucks.

Makes me question all these guys who are trading trucks (and taking a bath on the trade-in value) and thinking their coming out money ahead based on fuel economy.......

My '07 is worth $5,600 according to my dealer.

Only had it a year and paid $17k new for it last year.

How do you think I feel?!

If I got into an accident that screwed up the body, they'd probably total it.

I would never step down into an eco-car... I hate cars that have nothing smaller than a v8 and rwd. I like burning fuel and going slowwww.

I went to trade up to a '06 F-150 XLT - when I saw $4k on the trade-in paper, that pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to keep my truck. Good condition, just turned 91K, XLT.... I could get close to double that private sale in less than a month I guarantee (which, I may do).

Now is NOT the time to be selling a truck

Yeah, that's pretty bad...

Heck, you'd think that my truck would be worth more because it is somewhat eco-friendly with the 5 speed and the small v6... but nope... it's a truck. It's considered a gas guzzler.

Some dealers won't even offer you anything for them. On the radio the other morning a guy was talking about trading in his 06 mint condition f150 and the dealer said he can not take it, that he had trucks sitting on the lot for 6-8 months that haven't moved.

I've heard this as well - I even asked if they accepted a truck for trade before I looked at a new ones just to be sure. They may as well said "no" :o

1. Bad economy
2. High Gas prices
3. Big incentives from Ford, Dodge and Chevy to move stagnant gas guzzler vehicles.

And your surprised?

Bingo, I drive a lot, and I would only save about 2K a year in gas going from my V8 suv (that I actually use) to a Civic going off hat an ex-gfs Civic got for mileage, if 2K a year has got someone worried they should be looking at their financials overall. I had some friends with pickups and suv's freaking about mileage and going to get a Civic or Accord or Acura etc. Just to show them I did the numbers for them, the cars would actually end up costing more money and saving only a little in some cases, the extra mpg doesn't make a difference. They didn't factor in higher/similar payments, insurance on new car is generally higher, depreciation will cause them to lose their *** on trade in or selling etc. You have to look at everything. When I showed my buddies that would save money, they were like "thats it????" as if they thought they'd save 10K a year or something.

WOW is right! I have just about the same truck you have, mine is a SC with a little over 16,000 miles on it. After reading this, makes me want to drive it off a cliff. It's in perfect condition and I love it but this is ridicules. After almost four years I still owe More than what it's worth.

You're gonna get killed on trading in a full size pickup or SUV at this point in time. That's just the order of things.

I am surprised that Ford is still creating a bigger engine for the F150...

No one is going to buy one.

Dropping the v6? Smart move Ford...

America dug themselves into this mess....

To make matters worst, Albertsons just closed a grocery store that was about six blocks from me. I usually rode my bike there two or three times a week, now I have about ten mile round trip and I'm to lazy to ride my bike that far. I hate that when it happens, really pissed off hundreds of other people too.

when i went with my 08 i took my 2005 STX in to them and they said they would give me 9000 for my truck. i laughed then sold it private party within a week for 15,000. trade ins are rip offs. i will never trade a vehicle in when i can make double what they will give me. BTW i paid 18,000 for my 05 STX brand new i sold it 2 1/2 years later for 3,000 less then what i paid new.
