Well guys, I'm not feeling the love. The "low-ball" offer i presented on the '07 FX4 was rejected and countered, citing it's reasonableness compared to KBB and NADA.
I also pursued buying new. I told them that for me to buy new I'd need $10k off sticker and 0% financing. I could here the laughing over here in Okinawa. They said they'd do a deep dsicount with normal fianancing, or 0% with a lousy discount.
I definitely don't like this electronic negotiating and am sure I loose a bunch of buying power 'cause I'm not sitting there across the table with a fist full of money.
But I'm still not totally convinced that the deals are as great as they were post 9/11.
I also reviewed Carmax ads. All prices seem in line with the one I am looking at (given the year, options, miles and condition). And that was nationwide.
If you guys know of a dealer, or even specific truck, let me know. I can pick my port of entry, and have no ploblem flying there to pick up a great deal.
Thanks again,
Ken

why don't you order the truck while you're overseas? You can order any vehicle you want, with any combo of options. I've had quite a few buddies do this while stationed in Italy and Greenland. It's worth a look...and they claimed they saved a butt-ton of money

btw, only applies to Military, but I'm guessing you got that covered if your USAF

I spec'd one out with AAFES military auto sales a few months back. I was dissapointed with the savings. X-plan was better. I've watched all the way thru this month, and X-plan still wins. But it is still not $10k under invoice with 0% financing.
I'm going to reattack on the '07 FX4. My father-in-law looked at it and test drove it the other day and said it was "as advertised."
Thanks again for the inputs.
Ken

I think an 06 with those options you listed would be okay for $18-19K...but I find it hard to believe an 07 for <$22k.

Look into the Costco car buying program as well. My truck was stickered for just under $43k when I was looking in Oct 2006. The Costco price was $36,600...period, no negotiating. I then got $5k off in rebates. I think my final out the door price was $32,500 for a FX4 SuperCrew w/ Luxury Package (same options as top-end Lariat). People have claimed to get in the high $20's for the same truck, but I think I did pretty good with the Costco program
