Road Trip and Gas Mileage Thread
Took a road trip vacation and here are my results:
Mileage Mileage Volume Total $ Cost Efficiency
332.6 332.6 20.292 $71.00 3.499 16.391
540.4 207.8 12.649 $44.01 3.479 16.428
878.1 337.7 20.856 $74.02 3.549 16.192
1124.2 246.1 14.129 $50.00 3.539 17.418
1547.9 423.7 27.332 $97.00 3.549 15.502
1547.9 95.258 $336.03 3.523 16.250
Truck drove very well, even on the twisty roads of Hwy 7. I need to change my brakes because I warped the rotors last year and havent fixed them yet. The brake dust is horrible.
The best thing I have ever done to that truck is the 400 watt inverter mounted behind the back seat. I have an 8 month old son and we could heat bottles on the fly with an electric warmer. They make 12v versions, but they take around 15 minutes to warm a bottle vs the 120v version that takes 2-3.
I also enjoyed my cheap speaker upgrades, sub and PIE. I had my laptop plugged in, running MS streets and trips with GPS and winamp serving up the tunes. Adjusted the volume so I could hear directions over the music and worked out well.
With the bed cover, I was able to fit way too much stuff in the back of the truck including an excersaucer and a stowable crib. That would not have fit in an SUV.
I was hoping for 17-19mpg, but I guess I cant complain. I had to keep stopping because of the kids and with the hills and the 2 lane hwy between shreveport and Arkansas, its understandable.
My BAKFLIP worked out well, but in a very very bad rainstorm, it leaked a good deal from the front of the bed near the cab. It was parked at the hotel and on a funky angle when this happened, so level it may not have leaked.
Anyway it was fun and comfortable, so worth the premium in fuel.
Edit: My chart wont work, but the last line is the total for the whole deal.
