NBS Engine Compartment

Anybody have a clue why Ford opted against putting a light under the hood???

WTF were they thinking?

Be honest, am I nitpicking?

Anyway, I guess I dont get under the hood very often but I would be nice to have...

I am not sure... but I hate the way they have the models with the manual transmission setup.

Almost like Ford never intended to have a stickshift in the F150.

But I hate how there is no ashtray, there is no decent cupholders in mine within reach while driving, there is no lights for anything, including in the glovebox or under the hood.

I'm sure they were thinking of nothing more than the good ol' dollar; specifically, how to save one. Nothing more than a way to save a few bucks.

I know there was a member a while back that installed a light on the hood, but I don't recall who it was. But as I recall, it turned out well. I also think he was a little OCD about lighting; I think he also installed lights in the glove box and console.

Oh, it's not hard to add it... but it makes me kind of ticked that they didn't offer it from the factory.

I see not offering it on cars and such... but on a truck...

Well maybe with the production of trucks slowing down, maybe they can focus on aesthetics and options, rather than trying to push them off like pill pushers.

Manual... I know what you mean, the OBS manual 150's were awesome, v8, 4x4, nice interiors, etc.. I would have bought a manual in both my 04 and 08 f150 if avail with all the same options.

bamorris2,

good point about saving a dollar, i guess thats the way of the world...
i wish they would have had the option though, i bet dealers would have ordered it... they could call it the "genesis" or "let there be light" package and included a light in the hood, glovebox, console"

Yeah, I know what you mean. I remember a family member had a truck in the 90's (can't remember the make) that had a light in the engine compartment that was removable. You could pull on it, and a cord would unwind. You could move it around all over the engine compartment. It was pretty useful.

Yeah. I really liked the older ones. Especially with the popout drink tray and the hidden compartments. Plus, yes, the v8 with the 4x4.

I swear... I want a supercab, 4.6l v8, 5 speed, 4x4... but they are like finding a needle in a haystack.

Heck, I can't even find one of those lights aftermarket... that would be pretty dang cool to add to my engine compartment. I think it would be very helpful for when I have a roadside emergency.

This would be cool to have. I think it is similar (if not identical) to the one that I was thinking of...

Here's the link.

My first car was a Cherokee. It had a light under the hood that also had 15' of wire so you could detatch it and use the light where you needed to. I never realized what a genius solution that was until none of my subsequent cars/trucks had the thing... Oh yeah, it was also a 1989 model!

Sometimes the more that I think about it... it seems as if auto engineers went more for the interior appearance for "comfort" rather than practicality.

I know and understand people don't want a truck that is going to give them a sore back at the end of the day... but they should also think about the trucks that will get used only as a work truck. Making those additional goodies as an option.

I got the Work truck package on my F150 and the only thing that it included was the trailer hitch, 7 pin wire harness, tachometer, floor carpet delete, and "E" load rated tires, which I never got.

I found something weird the other day too... I was looking at the engine compartment, and I noticed that they forgot a snap for the clutch fluid resevoir...

But that's only a little thing.

However, it still really seems like auto manufacturers are going backwards in other aspects.

I keep a good flashlight in my truck with a couple extra sets of batteries, which is way better than some crummy underhood light.

Yup, had a 94 Z-71 Chevy P/U that had that light and it came in handy many times. I drive a Ford now, so I don't need it much to worry about.
