A/C Issue

Well... the first real problem with the F150...

When I turn on my A/C the compressor makes like a screeching noise when the A/C clutch is engaged.

So I stopped by the dealer earlier, and the service manager wanted to see it and hear it for himself. So he came out with me, and listened to it. He had me open the hood up and he was looking at it. He thinks it might be the clutch... because the air is blowing fridgidly, so he doubts its the refridgerant.

Hopefully, it is not a big deal.

A/C stuff is not my bargain... some day I'd like to learn how to fix A/C systems... but it's not in my favor right now. :o

I'm wondering if the clutch was burnished correctly from the factory?!

Well... bad news... the screeching is back!

Anyone know what the problem might be?

So far they put a new A/C clutch in... and that solved it for a few weeks... now it's back and louder than before!

Pully out of alignment causing wear on the clutch???

I only say that because we have an '04 Ranger at work that went through 3 water pumps before they found the problem.

Hmm...

I was reading around on this issue... and it seems as if it sounds like it could be the power steering pully causing the excess wear on the A/C clutch... Why? Why I turn the steering wheel, the noise comes back... but not as loud, but faintly.

I'm going to point this out to the dealer this week. Somehow something is not aligned correctly... or else something is so out of whack, that it can bust an a/c clutch in 2 weeks, and using it only exactly 2 times, for a matter of 30 minutes total.

Impressive... :o

Hopefully I don't lose my fan belt by the end of the week.... luckily for decent weather and windows.

I recently changed the belt on my wife's Expy, and the parts guy gave me one that was a 1/2" too long. I got it on and then 2 days later I heard this screeching every time the a/c was on. I decided to measure the new belt vs. the old belt and went back and got a shorter one. Problem was solved.
Might be something worth checking.
