debating on buying lifted f150
im looking at buying a 2004 extended cab f-150 thats lifted with bigger tires on stock wheels. what kind of city/ highway fuel mileage is everyone with lifted trucks and bigger tires getting ?
Also, be careful when buying a lifted truck. IF its private party ask how well it does offroad, how well it jumps, how deep of mud it can go through. If the owner is exited about how crazy he gets....stay away.
it has a 5.4 , the truck is at a ford dealer , it was just traded in so no one knows about the gears that are in it. i didnt catch the size of the tires but do know there on stock 18" wheels. from looking under neath it i cant see any traces of dirt or mudd. im more less concerned about the fuel economy of it seeing it will be my daily driver. im guessing it has between a 4 and 6 " lift.
Personally I'd stay away. No doubt they're asking more than it's worth for the tires and lift. Go find a stocker with low mileage that has undoubtedly been treated well, and start modding. It may take longer to get it where you want it, but atleast you know it's done right.
BTW, it's pretty easy to clean mud/dirt off the under-side. That's not a clear indication its never been thrashed.

it may not lifted. these trucks can fit 35" tires with a small leveling kit
look at my sig pic. there is 6-8" of gap there. until I get me some 35" tires that is.
check the front crossmember (under front axle)...that is the quickest way to see if lifted.
as for your question:
12-14 MPG city for stock trucks...up to 20 MPG highway
take about 2-3 mpg off city/highway MPG to account for bigger tires...the MPG hit may not be so bad if the axles have been regeared
hope that helps

You'd be surprised the things i've been told.....
I was looking at an 06 f250 diesel at a ford dealer, and was told that the truck was a towing rig its whole life, pulling something like 18k lbs.
I was like, thats great buddy... you just told me that the 40k miles on this truck were all HARD towing miles.... smart one
