i have what look like a tranny cooler radiat. right above my skidplate in the front plus another one in front of the radiator in the engine bay. i was wondering is that standard or has someone put that on before me. its right above where the very front of the skid plate mounts up, if its standard does seem every offroad of a location. but that for the replys

My Lariat came with one from the factory. It wasn't on the window sticker. I thought they only came on the FX4s

Why is the one on the gas tank plastic? That is so stupid. On my 97 it is steel yet on the 08 it is plastic, also on the 08 they transfer case and front diff skid plates are silver colored aluminum and appear to be very light weight. On my 97 they are black and heavy steel.

they say these are skid plates, but they're not...they are just some light stamped steel...I've already destroyed 1 set of skid plates

all of my 1992-1996 F-150s had STEEL skid plates...I've had the whole weight of the truck on them many a time

The skid plates on the 04-08's are very dinky compared to previous models.

Who makes them aftermarket without a lift? Or if someone has fabbed there own and is willing to post the dimensions that would be sweet.

The skid plate protecting the gas tank is not made of plastic, it is made of a composite material. Composites are (can be) much stronger than steels, metals, and especially plastic.

I think if Ford tried to slip a plastic skid plate past us, we'd have heard about it by now...

Well the one on the 2008 FX4 i have sitting in front of my house is plastic. So your hearing about it now. Cheap *** plastic and flimsy as hell. And in fact looks like injection molded plastic.

Well I have to say that the 04 FX4 tank skid plate is tough as hell. I was testing the bag jack on my truck when the damn thing shifted and slid off the bag. When the truck shifted it didn't settle on the jack stands as I planned. So the truck fell and the jack stand rammed into that cover and put a nice gouge in it before it fell over. I about crapped my pants waiting to 25 gallons of gas to pour out. Yea I was damn stupid thinking my plan would work. But lesson learned and all is well.

Picked up a used front one yesterday for $50. Going to try and use it as a template to make a real one out of 3/16" or 1/4" steel.
