2004 Power Steering High-Pressure Hose Leak
2004 Power Steering High-Pressure Hose Leak
2004 F-150 SuperCab 5.4L 3V, 50,000 miles
Wow, not even four years from rolling off the factory line and already my high-pressure power steering hose is beginning to leak. It's more of a slow leak that has only so far gummed up the frame-to-hose bracket, where the rubber portion of the hose does the hair-pin bend just behind the transmission cooler.
There is a TSB on the P/S pressure hose but it's only covered under 3/36,000 factory warranty, and only applies to vehicles sold in Northern Canada and Alaska, it seems.
Anyone familiar with swapping one of these out? I was changing the oil yesterday and spotted this. It hasn't blown out yet because I still have power steering, but I don't want to get caught flat-footed either. Alldatadiy has nothing on changing the hose out. I guess because it's just a hose with flared fittings on either end, not much of a procedure? I'm sure it will be loads of fun trying to get my flare wrenches in there.
BTW, Ford Parts Online has the correct replacement hose for about $88 plus shipping, whereas NAPA online has a generic one for $26. I think I'll go with Ford Parts.
Thanks for any tips!
