Looking for some pointers on how to remove a 2005 FX4 decal from the side of my truck without ruining my paint or paying the estimated $65.00 a specialty shop quoted me. Thanks guys.

 

i removed my 4x4 stickers off my kingranch by letting it warm up in the sun then slowly pulling it off...then waxed/buffed when i was done....a hairdryer also usually does the trick to warm it up....

 

Wow, warming in the sun? I live in Texas, so it gets plenty of sun and I have tried to peel it off but nothing. So a hairdryer huh? I would think that might damage the paint a little no?

 

i did it while i was washing my truck.. i just pulled it off.. i still need to clay bar it and wax it though..

 

I've been doing graphics on the side for a long time. Sun may get hot, but sometimes, it's not hot enough if your color is not dark. Just take a hairdryer to it and get it real warm and peel. If it does not work, spend $15 on a paint heat gun and warm it with that. Be EXTEMELY careful and keep the gun moving back and forth as to not burn the paint. You can get the paint hot enough to burn your hand when touching, but the hotter you get it the more the decal will stretch when pulling off. If too cool, the decal will keep breaking like it is hard plastic. Afterward, buff with some good cleaner and wax. If it's been on too long, you may have to take sopme tiger's eye, or buffing compound, to get rid of the difference in paint color or to remove the "edge" you will see where the decal was before.

 

Done it on 2 FX4's now to change off the red FX4 decal with a gray one. Just use a hairdryer. You'll be done in 2 minutes !

 

kdds05screw, where did you get those FX4 decals? It's what I have been looking for. I haven't been able to find those colors in a sticker that looks OEM. Help a brother out.

 

Two weeks ago I did my STX stickers here in nice cool Ohio with my wife's hairdryer. I had previously tried just pulling it off but it was a no go. Got one side warmed up and even that four year old sticker peeled right off super easy. It didn't even leave any glue except around the very edges and some goo gone took care of that. No paint fade and looks great. I was nervous because I'd done some sticker removal from my motorcycles in the past and whatever they use for stickers is darn near permanent and no amount of hair dryer action in the Texas sun made it as easy as my STX sticker was.

 

Off ebay 2 years ago. My saved link is dead now or I would forward it to you. I do have an extra set, ( same charcoal color ), was going to redo, since I f'ed up the install on one and had some air bubble under it but one day in the hot sun and the darn thing just fixed itself. On a sunny summer day i just peeled them off slowly. I found mine on ebay also.
